A trusted voice shaped by clinical experience offering education, clarity, a sense of calm, and encouragement for the journey.
Hi, I’m Cynthia Maritato, the writer and educator behind The Calming Edge. I’m a psychiatric nurse practitioner with a lifelong fascination for how the mind works, why we struggle, and most importantly, how we heal.
My path into the mental health field was not linear and was greatly influenced by my own struggles with ADHD, depression, anxiety, and my personal journey healing from trauma. Those experiences led me to earn my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Penn State University, and later a Master of Science in Nursing from Vanderbilt University, where I trained as a psychiatric nurse practitioner.
Over the years, I have worked in settings ranging from juvenile justice facilities and county jails to community mental health centers and outpatient clinics. Originally, I founded The Calming Edge as a private telehealth practice so I could offer compassionate, evidence-based care and give my clients the time they truly deserved.
Today, I’ve stepped away from clinical practice but not from mental health.
The Calming Edge is now where I bring together everything I’ve learned as a clinician, a mother, a grandmother, and a human being, still growing.
